AI UI generator: how to turn text into real app screens

By Lyxvo · Published · 5 min read

An AI UI generator turns a written description into interface screens. The good ones do more than draw one pretty screen: they plan the flow, keep one design system across every page and give you files a developer can use. This guide explains how text to UI works and walks through it in Lyxvo AI.

What "text to UI" actually means

"Text to UI" is the short name for generating user interface designs from a prompt. You write what the product is, who it is for and what people do in it; the tool returns screens with real layout, typography, colours, icons and copy.

There are three levels of quality you will meet when you try different tools:

  1. One screen at a time. You get a nice-looking single screen. Useful for inspiration, but every new screen may use other colours, other spacing and other buttons.
  2. A set of screens with one style. The tool keeps a design system (colours, fonts, corner radius, spacing) so the screens look like one product.
  3. A planned, linked flow. The tool first decides which screens the product needs, designs each of them in the same system and links the buttons so you can click through it like a prototype.

Lyxvo AI works at the third level. Its design agent writes a page plan before it designs anything, then designs each page with the shared design system and links buttons to the pages they lead to.

Before you write the prompt

A UI generator can only design what it understands. Spend two minutes on these four points and the result improves more than any "magic words" would:

  • The product in one sentence. "A habit tracker for university students" is better than "a productivity app".
  • The main jobs. What does a person come to do? Add a habit, tick it off, see a streak, get a reminder.
  • The platform. iPhone, Android or the web. Mobile screens and desktop pages are built differently.
  • The feel. Calm and minimal, bold and playful, dark mode, a brand colour. One or two words are enough.

You do not need to list every screen. Naming the most important ones helps, and the agent adds the ones a real product needs, such as onboarding, login or settings.

Step by step: text to UI in Lyxvo AI

  1. Open Lyxvo Design and pick App design on the start screen ("What will you make today?").
  2. Choose the phone platform: iOS or Android. The agent follows that platform's conventions, such as the tab bar and navigation style.
  3. Describe the app in the composer, in your own words. For example: "A habit tracker app for students: onboarding, today's habits, streaks, statistics and settings. Friendly, green and white, rounded cards."
  4. Press the arrow (or Enter). The agent writes a Page plan: the list of screens with a short purpose for each. Read it; you can add a page with Add page if something is missing.
  5. Press Make all pages to design the whole flow, or Next page to go one screen at a time. The agent log on the right shows every step.
  6. When the screens are on the canvas, press Present to click through them. Buttons, tabs and cards that lead somewhere are linked.
  7. If a button leads to a screen that has not been designed yet, Lyxvo shows Complete the flow. Press it and the missing screens are designed with the same system.

A good first prompt names the product, the audience and three to five main screens. Everything else can be refined afterwards.

Refining the generated UI

The first version is a starting point. There are two ways to change it.

Ask the agent. Select a screen and type what you want in the prompt box at the bottom: "make the streak card bigger", "add a dark mode version", "replace the bar chart with a weekly calendar". The agent changes only that screen and keeps the design system. Right-click a screen for more: Variations (three versions with a different layout, colour or style), Other platform version (the Android version of an iOS screen, or the other way round) and Next screen in the flow.

Edit directly. Double-click a screen to edit it like in a design editor. Click any text, photo or shape to select it, drag to move it, use the corner to resize, double-click text to type. The left rail adds elements, text, your uploads and your brand colours.

Getting the UI out of the generator

A UI that stays inside a tool is a picture. Lyxvo AI gives you several ways out, all under Export at the top right:

ExportWhat you getWho it is for
Copy to FigmaEditable SVG layers, pasted with Ctrl/⌘+VDesigners who continue in Figma
Figma (SVG + tokens)Every selected screen as SVG plus tokens.json for Tokens StudioDesign system work
.zip (HTML + DESIGN.md)Every screen as an HTML file plus the design system as MarkdownDevelopers, quick handoff
Flutter UI kitTheme, reusable components and every screen as Flutter codeFlutter developers
Jetpack Compose UI kitTheme, components and screens in KotlinAndroid developers
Download PNGAn image of each screenPitch decks, app store drafts, feedback

Copying to Figma is part of every plan; what you can download depends on your plan, as shown on the pricing page.

Common mistakes with AI UI generators

  • Asking for "an app like Instagram". The tool will either copy a well-known pattern too closely or guess. Describe your own product instead.
  • Packing ten requests into one edit. Ask for one or two changes at a time; you will see exactly what changed.
  • Ignoring the plan. The page plan is where the flow is decided. A missing checkout or profile screen is easier to add there than later.
  • Treating the result as final code. Generated HTML and UI kits are a strong start for a developer, not a finished, tested app. Data, logins and payments still need to be built.

When an AI UI generator is the right tool

It shines when you need to see an idea quickly: a founder testing a concept with users, a freelancer preparing a proposal, a developer who needs screens before writing code, or a product team exploring three directions before choosing one. It is less useful when a mature design system already defines every component; then you mostly want small, precise edits.

Try it

The fastest way to understand text to UI is to try it with your own idea. Write one paragraph about your app, pick iOS or Android, and let the agent plan and design the flow.
